As I was mid-editing Becci and Dave’s wedding celebration party, my mother-in-law (who by the way is one of the most supportive family you could hope for towards my work) caught sight of my laptop screen and peered in with a perplexed expression on her face…I could tell she thought that the photos looked rather odd…or rather, not what you’d expect from wedding photos but then again, Becci and Dave are not your average bride and groom (although strictly speaking this wasn’t their official wedding, this was the post-wedding celebration party AND everyone was in full swing Halloween fancy dress – it was Halloween after all!).
“Look…” I said, “…let me play you their first dance song and you’ll get it.” I typed in ‘American Wedding’ by Gogol Bordello into Youtube and together we listened to the hilarious lyrics, crashing drums, energetic violin and random accordion.
That song makes me beam every time I listen to it. Becci and Dave are immense fun, free-spirited and extremely creative (Dave is not a carpenter or engineer sort and he built the all-singing-and-dancing photo booth from scratch!) – as always, I wanted the pictures to reflect their personality and vibe and atmosphere of the evening fun.
Here is what Becci and Dave thought of their photos:
“We LOVE them! You have managed to capture the fun, mania and sheer joy of the evening and it’s been wonderful to be able to relieve it all again. You have been such great fun and it was a total pleasure to have you there with us, so thank you very very much…P.S. – It’s difficult to pick favourites but the dancing ones do stand out…you captured the frenzy of the moment and the sheer joy of everyone just right!…And the ones of Dave his mum, especially the one of him kissing her are really treasured (thanks again!) x
So much love, congratulations and big thank you to Becci and Dave!
Rock on Halloween weddings! x
